"Cribbage Version" Directions
THE CARDS:
• Letter cards – A through Z
• Flip cards – you choose! J or X, V or Z, (indicated by orange dot beneath letter)
• Combo letter cards – the most common consonant combos in the English language: ST, SH, TH, CH, plus QU
• Two Wild/Any Letter cards
Deal out number of cards to each player face down, per the instructions below. From original hand, players discard into crib, per instructions below.
• Two players: Nine cards dealt and two discarded into crib
• Three players: Eight cards dealt and one discarded into crib
• Four players (two teams of two players): Nine cards dealt each, two each discarded into crib.
This version plays similar to the regular Play on Words version but with a few exceptions:
• A Cribbage board is used for scoring, and players peg points at one point per letter on any new words played or
play-ons. No double points for adding to/rearranging existing words.
• No additional turn for the losing players once the winning player has gone out.
• Goal is to peg points and go out before your opponent(s).
• Player who goes out first each round wins crib!
• Any unplayed cards of the non-winners are totaled up and are pegged as bonus points for the winning player, at one point per card.
• Winning player then cuts remaining cards in stack and top card is turned over. Top card is combined with crib to produce as many three-or-more letter words as possible, pegging one point per letter.
• Muggins rule applies for non-winners, if they can spot an unused three-or-more letter word. Twelve-point maximum in crib between winner and any “muggins” possibilities.
